BLOEMFONTEIN – The media landscape in Free State continues to improve following the successful launch of Suave Leader, the third magazine in the province. According to Kamogelo Seekoei, the founder of Kanna Media, publishers of Suave Leader, the name denotes sophistication. “When I was in grade five I learnt that the word “suave” means sophisticated and from then on, all I used to tell my friends was that was when I grew up, I wanted to be sophisticated,” explained the Thaba Nchu-born veteran journalist. The business and political publication was launched at a classy rooftop do of a local city hotel on Friday 2 December.
“Our main focus will be on the major players in politics and business instead of on the hard news of the industries,” she explained. On the cover of their very first edition, the magazine featured the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyana, with the main focus being on the recent drought that hit the province and country at large. “We have different sections like top level where we look at executives and the like then there are “game changers” who are young people changing the game in their respective field and one to watch which focuses on careers and people climbing the corporate ladder,” explained Seekoei. The publication also focuses on youth ambassadors who are flying the Free State and South African flag all over the continent and world. “In that section, we featured among others Wayde Van Niekerk who is doing well in the athletics world and representing the province and country well on world stages,” she said. Seekoei also said that they were hoping to operate beyond the borders of the province as a monthly publication.
