Dikgaka athletes are continuing with their quest to conquer gruelling challenges as they recently defied the Cape Vaal Gate Marathon in Gauteng, much to the delight of the team. It is only three months into the New Year, but for the Welkom-based club it seems like a year as they have engaged in a host of races thus far.
They come from the 44th edition of the Vaal Gate held in Vereeniging - the 42.2km and 21.1km. They are thrilled to have set foot in the race, saying the experience is vital.
"Big events like this wouldn't pass without the presence of the Dikgaka athletes representing Welkom.
That's what we intend to achieve all the time," said the team. The race followed the Johnson Crane they challenged in January. In the meantime, Nthabiseng Tinte recently also made the team proud after finishing second in the 42km Sasol Marathon - the result that booked her a spot in the Free State Championship [50-59 category Women's Masters Category.] She finished the race in 03:56 her personal best time thus far in the 42km marathon. Elsewhere, Abe Nkomo and Nkhetheni Masupa also did well for the team when they battled the 35th edition of the Pick 'n Pay 42km Marathon held in Gauteng.
