Learners will battle in the Provincial Primary Schools Athletics Championship this weekend as they seek to be part of the team to represent the Free State at national competition later next month. Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation together with the Department of Education in consultation with the Free State Schools Athletics will host the competition to select the final athletes to partake in the national event. Learners from various primary schools across town will assemble at the Free State Athletics Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday to fight for the spot in the final team. The battle will take place from 9am.
A total number of 11 000 learners participated in the trials of the Zonal Competitions, 3 500 in the District Competitions while 900 battled in the district championships to qualify to participate in the Provincial Championships. However, only 180 leaners will move to the national championship set to take place from 15-17 March 2018 in Paarl, Western Cape.
