MEC responsible for Department of Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State, Butana Komphela visited Koffiefontein on Saturday, where he addressed the drug and substance abuse epidemic which he stated was on the increase.
Komphela’s visit was well received by the locals who ascended to the MEC’s call. Thembisile Rens, on of the residents in Koffiefontein said:“We need strong policing that will help is fight drugs. We cannot live in fear, thinking that someone will come and harm us.”
Tinny Molesane another community member from Koffiefontein said that the visit by the MEC and his panel should not be a once off occasion. “We want to see police coming to our community and helping with ways to reduce the selling of drugs in our area,” Molesane said. She was also willing to work hand-in-hand with the police in identifying the people who are selling drugs.
MEC Butana Komphela said that he will not stop the fight against drugs in the province anytime soon. “The fight against drugs will continue and we are pleading with the community members to show us who are those people that are selling drugs. We will do a special operation and we will arrest those who are responsible,” Komphela said.
