Ngwathe addresses water supply systems

Community involvement is also critical

The Executive Mayor of Ngwathe Local Municipality, Councilor Joey Mochela has introduced a service delivery team to turn around water service provision. The team was led by the Municipal Manager, William Kannemeyer and his water division team headed by the technical director.According to Mochela, the turnaround emanated from the various consultations that she had with stakeholders on the challenges that the municipality has on water quality.

The Mayor has assured the community that tap water quality be achieved within a short space of time. She said Randwater is the country’s and Africa’s capable waterboard and that the board has signed an agreement with the municipality to perform functions which includes amongst others operation and maintenance, water quality, water quantity, bulk water supply, water demand and water conservation.

“We urge the community to be patient with the process as we will keep them abreast with any further developments. She told Dumelang News that the purpose of the visit to the project was to introduce measures that seek to improve water supply in the area. “We have been talking to our people during our various community outreach programs including ward-based meetings and Imbizos, where the emphasis was on, inter alia, clean water.

For quite some time we have been receiving complaints regarding the quality of water and now we are implementing turn round strategies that will bring visible changes to our water quality while ensuring that all areas receive clean water,” said Mochela.

She said Cuban engineers deployed at the municipality were also part of the turnaround process. “Community involvement is also critical hence the municipality through communications unit and water management team is establishing residential units who are going to work with ward councilors in different areas as part of rapid response, getting feedback and monitoring both water quantity and quality and report to both my office and that of the Municipal Manager,” said Mochela.
She said this will also determine further intervention methods needed.
